Patti the "big dill" Pickle here, sharing tidbits of what you can look forward to at this year's Santa Barbara Fermentation Festival. Recently, I had the opportunity to get TRANSFORMED with Scott Linde of Sun Potion Transformational Foods. The company is dedicated to health, happiness, and well-being through the use of medicinal plants, super foods, and tonic herbs. Sourcing the planet for potent, healing substances, their products have the ability to transform consciousness and health.
From skin food to tonic herbs and ayurvedic adaptogens, I enjoyed learning more about this transformational line of organic and consciously sourced products. Cheers to good health!
Patti the Pickle: How have you been transformed by the creation of Sun Potion and the products you offer?
SL: The company is in fact called "Sun Potion, Transformational Foods"! Its evolution has been a huge growth cycle in my life. These herbs, extracts, and algae are some of the most prized healing foods from humanity's interactions with plants. Sun Potion exists as a way to share the transformational experience of eating these foods with others.
Eating Sun Potion daily is one easy way to feel amazing! I want that for everybody.
Patti the Pickle: You mention you only source organic or wildcrafted products. What does wildcrafted mean and what are some of your favorite local purveyors?
SL: Wild plants can be more robust and potent than their equivalent farmed varietals. This is because farmed plants are attended to and may be pampered by the farmers. A wild plant must struggle to survive and thrive. My favorite way to consume wild plants is through drinking Ascending Health Super Green Juice 5 days a week. It's amazing stuff. Alfred has formulated weeds (wild plants) with herbs and bitter greens to produce some of the best juice I have ever found. :-)
The hills above Santa Barbara are a treasure trove of wild edibles. I recommend everyone try an herb walk or pick up a plant identification book and go on a hike. Yerba Santa, Sages, and others are right there on the hill. In-Joy!!
Patti the Pickle: What products do you carry that are currently fermented? Do you have a favorite fermented product?
SL: Cacao is of course fermented. Sun Potion offers four forms of raw, organic, heirloom cacao. Our Cacao is top quality, grown in Ecuador by 30 to 60 year old trees that are nourished by mountain river and spring water. Volcanic soil amendments are brought down from the mountain by donkeys. It's my personal favorite raw, fermented cacao.
Cacao is a primary ingredient in Sun Potion's Anandamide Drink Mix. The name Anandamide refers to a neurotransmitter produced naturally by cacao trees and humans, which is often referred to as the "Bliss Molecule". The blend is a celebration of the line. Nicknamed, "Bliss Alchemy", Anandamide is what we make at that house when friends come to visit. To my knowledge, it is the only chocolate drink mix on the market with no sweeteners. Full of Sun Potion's herbs and 6 spices, it lives up to its name!
Sun Potion will also be offering miso-based fermentation blends. I won't say too much about this. These will make their debut at this year's Santa Barbara Fermentation Festival!
Patti the Pickle: What are some of the health benefits of your fermented line?
SL: The thing I love about ferments is that they contain the beneficial properties of the initial ingredients, plus the activated benefits of the bacteria at work. Sun Potion ferments begin with a foundation of the highest quality tonic herbs and adaptogens available today. The effects of these are all up-leveled by the transforming nature of the active cultures involved. The magic of the finished material is really tangible.
Patti the Pickle: For people who may not be familiar with adaptogens, please explain the mental and physical health benefits.
SL: Adaptogens are plants that support the body, mind, and spirit to rise up and move through life's challenges. They are foods, plants or herbs that help us adapt to stressors. They make us both more robust and more responsive.
Patti the Pickle: Explain your work with the Wildize Foundation and its community efforts in Ghana.
SL: Sun Potion Shea Butter comes to us by way of the Wildize Foundation. They are based in Vail, and originated as a wildlife and ecology preservation project in Ghana. They later broadened the scope of their mission to include access to clean drinking water, education, and building economy for women. The Shea Butter is of excellent quality. It is the fat-essence of sunlight, 50+ year old shea trees, and African soil. It is totally unrefined; just boiled, dried, and mashed shea nuts. It is truly a skin food.
Patti the Pickle: We are excited for your attendance at this year's festival. What can we look forward to?
SL: I love talking about the foods. The Sun Potion Booth is a really nice way to interact with people and answer questions or share stories about these foods. Please come by the booth and say hello!
We at Sun Potion are really pleased to be sponsoring this year's event. I tell people: "The Santa Barbara Fermentation Festival is my favorite event...its a festival for Super Conscious Microbes!"
If you haven't tried Sun Potion, bring home a jar and experience it for yourself! We will be offering Show Specials and significant discounts at our booth. You can find a preview of what we offer at www.SunPotion.com
